Delightful Novelty – not every customer or potential customer can be delighted, enchanted or enticed by a small promotional item or extra attentive level of service that takes an additional few minutes of time, but those who can are likely to talk about it or give referrals.
This company sent out two pencils and a sharpener with a whole bunch of way cool extra erasers with a letter about Frank Lloyd Wright, Steven Sondheim and Chuck Jones who were previous creative users. They’re also having an interactive Social Media creative challenge campaign – will a great pencil make you more creative?
I don’t know if they searched and found a post I made one day about having a mug of at least a dozen Ticonderoga pencils at the ready on my desk … or if they sent it based on my Klout score – but those pencils were sharpened and played with in an hour after I got them and I looked up the company website and tweeted back a thank you. This blog post was instigated and I’m pretty jazzed about using these pencils…

This is an excellent showcase by the way for “having a little story with your Novelty”.

Oh Kathryn, just looking at those pencils made me want them! I’ve always been a sucker for things like this – when I was working in the travel industy the big annual incentive conference was (and still is) IT&ME in Chicago. Hoteliers and transportation companies on one floor and incentive award suppliers on another. On the last day of the conference the incentive suppliers either gave away or sold their stuff for a really low price so they wouldn’t have to cart it all home – talk about turning a bunch of kids loose in a candy store!

They are made of cedar and smell really “pencilly” when you sharpen them too. Oh when you can get a gal excited about office supplies… what a world of fun! They have a really nice executive set with a leather journal and wooden case for the pencils and super sharp sharpener that would make a great gift.
I am about to get those pencils! lol They look great. I am by no means an artist but I have always have a thing for pens and pencils, all kinds. Since you used them… are they better and smoother or just cool looking? Are they just sold online?
Very smooth and the replaceable eraser with erasers that really work well are good. I think the http://pencils.com/ is best place to get them – I got them free as a Klout perk so if you have an account there and score is high enough you may be able to opt in and get the 2 free ones and sharpener. I bought a special pencil in Paris in 1999 that had a cap with a super sharp sharpener built in, but these are very nice and inspiring creativity? Sure.
Oh what fun indeed! Those look just lovely Kathryn! I like the replaceable eraser idea goodness knows I need it. Pencils on a good paper can have a lovely effect, The one thing I’d find missing that I fell in love with was the little smudging tools, ya know the little paper wrapped up to look like a pencil but is just for blending. You can do really neat things with them. A good reminder that not all smudges in life need erased… some really do add character!

Check Perks in your Klout dashboard and you may be able to get them and the sharpener. I am definitely thinking of these as a client gift down the road, why would I want to work with someone who isn’t enchanted by such a toy? Yes there are “pen people” but on some level, acknowledging the need to “potentially” erase things is a psychological indicator that should be considered carefully. (sortof kidding, but not really)
